Why the listener count resets after restarting the radio

Restarting the port drops the connections and resets the "this session" counters on the Home screen. The history is not lost. Understand which number is per session and which is history.

After a Restart (or a server drop), the Listener connections card on the Home screen goes back to zero and the listeners disappear for a few seconds. That is the expected behavior, and no audience data is lost — what changes is which counter you are looking at.

Session counters × history

  • Listener connections — "in this session" (in block 3): it is the streaming server itself counting how many connections it received since it was turned on. Restarting the port restarts the server, and the counter starts again from zero. It was never a historical total.
  • Listeners now: who is connected this second. It drops to zero on the restart and comes back as the players reconnect (most reconnect on their own in seconds).
  • Encoder uptime: restarts too, because the audio source reconnects.
  • Statistics › Real-time and History: they are recorded by the panel, outside the server. Sessions, unique listeners, minutes and countries of previous days stay there after any restart.

What the restart does to listeners

Everyone who was connected drops. Players and apps try to reconnect on their own; whoever listened through an old link or a simple device may need to press play again. That is why you should restart at low-audience times, and only when needed (changing password, applying settings, unlocking the server).

Where to see the real total

For "how many people listened today / this month", use Listener history: Total Sessions and Unique Listeners in the period. The Home screen card only serves to follow the current session.

What to do if…

  • I did not restart and it reset anyway. The radio's server restarted on its own (maintenance or drop). Check the Encoder uptime: if it also started over, that was it. If it happens often, open a ticket.
  • Listeners did not come back after the restart. Check that the badge is Port Online and that the audio source reconnected (see how).
